Abuja has on Monday in Abuja witnessed terror as scores of death were recorded following a face off between members of the Islamic Movement Of Nigeria, known as Shiites and the Nigeria Police.
The group staged another protest on Monday in the nation’s capital, demanding the release of their leader Sheik Ibraheem El Zakzakky – who has been detained since 2015 by the DSS – after a court had granted him bail.
Monday protest, which is the latest in series of protests held by the group, is reported to have claimed its highest-profile victim so far.
Apart from those of the group members killed by live bullets from the security forces, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation at FCT Command has been also reportedly shut dead.
Early sources claimed that DCP Umar was killed by the protesters while trying to prevent the hostile action of destruction of property at the axis of the federal secretariat and three arms zone.
Consequent of the violence, security was beefed up at the Force headquarters to prevent reprisal attacks over the arrest and killing of scores of the protesters from the sect.
